Morning hunt

Since the South Island has gone down to level 3 lockdown you are allowed to go hunting around your home area. On Wednesday morning my Dad and I got up at 4:30am to go out for a hunt in our local area. Since it was the first day of whitebaiting season we were hoping there would be no one in there. When we got up my Dad and I had toast for breaky and made milo and coffee for the drive-in. When we got there it was a bit foggy but still a nice morning, we got out of the truck put our jackets on, and started walking. We were hunting for deer and there was a lot of sign around (footprints and droppings). We snuck our way up all the way to the top end of the valley it was a 5 km walk up so we stopped there for a bit. When we were heading back Dad said if we see a goose I could shoot it because it was getting too light for deer. I had never shot a goose and I really hoped we would see some. We were walking along the river and we saw about five geese floating down. Dad got me set up and I shot one just as they floated past. Dad ran out into the river and grabbed it, the water was up to his waist and when he got out he was soaked. Dad quickly shot another one, he got that then we went back to the truck. Once we got home we hung them in the shed for a bit then we plucked them and cut them up so we could cook them up for tea sometime soon. Have you ever shot a gun or a bow?

  1. What an early start Cody! I'm proud that you still managed your school work when you got home though. Looking forward to BBQ Pulled Goose Sliders for dinner tonight!
